‘It’s a good time for everybody’: Lowell Folk Festival returns for 36th year - LOWELL SUN
LOWELL — The live music, the smiling crowds of people, and the food from around the world returned to downtown on Friday night as the Lowell Folk Festival kicked off its 36th year.
The event officially began with music from a group of Haitian performers, Lakou Mizik, which led the Parade of Nations from City Hall to Boarding House Park.
Flags from across the globe waved in the air as the parade danced down Kirk and French streets, before ending up alongside Boarding House Park stage. There, Mayor Sokhary Chau welcomed the crowd of festivalgoers, while state Rep. Vanna Howard introduced each country that participated in the parade.
It was the official beginning of the event, but Downtown Lowell was buzzing before the parade’s first musical note rang out.
“We try to come here every year,” said Cheryl, of Keene, New Hampshire, who declined to provide her last name, while sitting in Boarding House Park. She has been attending the festival for the last decade.
